Old style shoe. The movement possible are hard to describe, but are the same as the new shoes, where it is easier to see. Brass shoe with a graphite insert. Steel harp (don't ask) attached to the top of the steel pole. The heavy wire is the electrical connection, as the harp and the pole are isolated from each other.
